1771-1825 Spanish Empire Silver 8 Reales Bust Type (Chopmarked)
The Spanish 8 Reales coin was the most readily accepted coin by Chinese merchants, praised for its high silver content and reliability. Chopmarks are from circulation in the orient, where traders would punch marks to verify the purity of the silver.

I would not buy these as there is so much capacity for being let down. it was like finding Waldo to find the chip marks, and the coin was in pretty bad condition. 100% regret the purchase.

I was very excited to add an 8 reales coin to my collection however when I received this coin I was very disappointed. The coin had been harshly cleaned with hair lines visible on the obverse, rim damage where it seems the coin was dropped twice and isn't completely round anymore and there was PVC damage on the rim. There were two chopmarks present, one being incredibly tiny and the other can easily be mistaken as just normal damge to the coin. I ordered through APMEX to avoid this sort of thing but if they consider a harshly cleaned coin to be "avg circulation", I will not be purchasing from them in the future.

The price was a little high, and sadly disappointed when received. It had no detectable chop marks. BUT... I contacted Apmex, got a great replacement and am very satisfied. Received an 1808 in better condition and with 10+ Chop Marks. Imagine the history! Very staisfied.

I received a 1787, the coin has about 11 chop marks in it. I love looking at it and just thinking about all the hands and places that this piece of eight has been in! Extremely happy with this purchase!

Was hoping for a 18th century coin with lots of chopmarks. Got a 19th century coin with hardly any. Still happy. There’s always next time.
